Statistical Data Science Laboratory

Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Hosei University, Tokyo, Japan / 日本語

Outreach Opening research and education to society

The laboratory shares what it learns through research and education in statistics with companies, academic societies and high school students.

Corporate training

We offer in-house training in statistics and reliability engineering for departments such as quality assurance, testing and evaluation, and human resources education. Participants learn Weibull analysis and accelerated degradation tests, Bayesian statistics and item response theory using data from their own workplaces (in Japanese).

We taught a one-day, six-hour course "Bayesian Estimation and Its Applications to Data Analysis, Predictive Distributions and Discrimination" for corporate participants, mainly from manufacturing and IT companies, in 2025 and 2026.

Classes for high school students

On August 4, 2026, we gave a class titled "Data change beliefs: experiencing statistics that approaches the truth from little data" at "One Day Science at Hosei Koganei Campus." Students estimated the proportion and the total number of go stones in a box by Bayesian estimation.
